My Background

My Inspiration

My Background

I have had a passion for art as long as I can remember, constantly drawing and painting as a child. In high school I was able to explore pottery, painting and drawing through my elective classes. I continued that passion for art in college, studying art and elementary education, while also starting my small, in-home, door-hanger business. I am now a K-6 art teacher and enjoy instilling a love for creating and appreciation for art in my students. I spend most of my free time painting and creating.

I take much of my inspiration from nature. It is where I feel at peace, and I love to recreate that feeling in my landscapes. I am always in awe of the beauty of the world around us. I often use photos from places I have traveled, or photos that friends and family share.

Many of my works also include deep internal emotions, that I try to portray on canvas. Even in my landscapes and abstract pieces try to provoke emotion, choosing subject matter carefully. I have taken inspiration from many great artists of the past, my favorite being Vincents Van Gogh. Like Van Gogh, I use color and texture to portray an emotion. I believe art is for everyone, and love to create things that everyone can enjoy, whether that is a pair of earrings to wear, a door hanger to greet your guests, or a lovely painting for your home.

My Inspiration

I find it freeing to work with different media to bring each piece to life, rather than sticking to one traditional medium. Painting has always been favorite, and I have recently explored mixing materials, such as sheetrock, with my paint, to create thicker, texturized pieces. My door hangers are all hand painted with acrylic paint. I create my own designs and don’t use any stencils. My latest work, includes polymer clay earrings that are also created completely by hand.
